High Point Market Trends: What's Hot in Interior Design for 2025
Hello, Fellow Design Lovers!
There's nothing quite like immersing yourself in the world's largest furniture showcase to get a pulse on where interior design is heading. I've just returned from High Point Furniture Market in North Carolina, where designers, retailers, and manufacturers gather to reveal what will soon be appearing in homes across the country. Today, I'm excited to share my observations and insights about what's trending for 2025.
The Evolution of Neutrals
If you've been following design trends over the past few years, you know that warm neutrals have been having their moment. What's interesting now is how these neutrals are evolving—they're no longer standing alone but are being enriched with complementary hues that add depth and personality.
The standout accent colorsfor me this season? Plums and greens. These nature-inspired tones are being woven into neutral palettes in ways that feel both fresh and grounded. Rather than stark contrasts, we're seeing these colors incorporated as subtle undertones that bring warmth and dimension to spaces.
Nature's Influence Continues to Grow
The biophilic design movement shows no signs of slowing down. Showrooms were filled with pieces that celebrate our connection to the natural world:
Plant-inspired furnishings that mimic organic forms
Vine-like lighting fixtures that create flowing, natural statements across ceilings and walls
Botanical patterns appearing in unexpected places
This trend reflects our collective desire to bring the outdoors in, creating spaces that feel alive and connected to something larger than ourselves.
The Wallpaper Renaissance
One of the most exciting developments I observed was the continued resurgence of wallpaper—but not your grandmother's floral patterns! Today's wallpapers are bold, vibrant, and sometimes incorporate tactile elements that add another dimension to your walls.
Some options featured velvet textures that invite touch while creating dramatic light play as you move through a space. These textured varieties are perfect for accent walls or small spaces where you want to create maximum impact.
The Metal of the Moment
If you're planning any hardware updates or incorporating metallic accents, take note: brass and gold tones dominated the market this year. These warm metals appeared on everything from cabinet pulls to lighting fixtures to furniture frames.
For those who've committed to silver and chrome throughout their homes, you might find your options more limited in the coming seasons. While cool metals haven't disappeared, they're certainly taking a backseat to their warmer counterparts in 2025.
Lighting Gets Liberated
Technology continues to transform how we illuminate our spaces. Many new lighting options no longer require hardwiring, offering flexibility in placement and installation. However, I'd offer one note of caution: some of these wireless options require substantial charging stations, so depending on your space and aesthetic preferences, traditional hardwiring might still be your best option.
Texture Takes Center Stage
If there's one thing that was absolutely everywhere at High Point, it was texture—particularly boucle fabrics. This nubby, loop-textured upholstery has moved beyond accent pieces and is now appearing on everything from sofas to dining chairs.
The color of choice for boucle? A warm, inviting shade I like to call "teddy bear brown" that adds coziness and comfort to any room. But I would be care
A Thoughtful Approach to Trends
With all these exciting new directions in design, it's tempting to dive headfirst into updating our spaces. But before you commit to a complete overhaul, I'd like to share some perspective that might save you from future design regret.
Remember the cool gray trend that dominated for years? Many homeowners who fully embraced it—painting entire homes in those tones—are now finding their spaces feel dated just a few years later. This is the natural cycle of trends, but it's worth considering before making major investments.
My philosophy has always been: remain on the periphery of trends. Incorporate elements you genuinely love while maintaining a more timeless foundation. This approach allows you to refresh your space without committing to expensive overhauls every decade.
For example, decorative trims are making a strong comeback. While some are absolutely beautiful and I'm incorporating touches here and there, going all-in might leave your space looking dated in a few years. The key is moderation and authenticity—choose what genuinely speaks to you rather than what's simply "of the moment."
Your Turn: This Weekend's Design Challenge
Instead of my usual weekend project suggestion, I'd love to hear your thoughts on design trends! Should we fully embrace them? Stay away completely? Or find that elusive middle ground?
Share with me a trend you fell too hard into—we've all been there! Perhaps it was the farmhouse-everything phase, or maybe you went all-in on the cool gray trend I mentioned. Tell me about your experience and what you learned from it.
